Our Mask Mission

Krauter family wearing masks coronavirus

I'm Tracy Krauter, a former park ranger and mom of 3 boys. Here I am with my husband, David, and grown boys Axel, Simon & Miles. We are in front of our house where since March 2 we have worked on our Mask Mission together, bringing 150,000 masks so far to your faces. We have donated 63,000 masks and counting. The need is great, the stories are heart-wrenching and inspiring.

As a maker, when the Coronavirus hit Seattle hard, I started making masks out of Napkin fabric I had on hand. Sewing could finally actually save lives!

I created Splash Fabric, a line of durable fun, eco-friendly fashion and homegoods made out of fabric I design. We have pivoted to shipping and donating thousands of masks everyday. Uniquely situated to connect sewers, customers, and those in need of donations, Splash Fabric’s Mask Mission began this March.

Continuing our history of involvement in community outreach, local arts initiatives, environmentally friendly production and Seattle's small business community, Splash Fabric has converted their small business into a HUGE mask making operation. The grassroots, family run, eco-friendly, USA made, mask mission is just getting started. Join us in slowing the spread!

Mask Mission

Because of the support of customers and our incredible network, we've donated over 63,000 masks to community organizations, healthcare workers, houseless people, refugees and elders. You can find a list of some of these wonderful organizations we've given masks to below! I'm so grateful to respond to COVID in a meaningful way and will continue to provide resources for any and all who want to join us. Thank You!

CRAFTERS AGAINST COVID

We found the perfect donation partner in Candace Frank and her group, Crafters Against Covid19, who mobilize local crafters with supplies, patterns and motivational deadlines to make masks for donations to health care, and essential workers and the under served among us. We have donated fabric (about 1,800 yds so far) and our shop cutter to cut the pieces for kits that are given to the work force of local home stitchers who stitch them up. They have an impressive net work of volunteers who make and distribute kits, sew them, and collect and then drop 'em off. They’ve donated 40,000 masks so far!!! Our pieces are helping.

Helping our community in hard times

Mask Mission

Giving back has always been a part of the Splash Fabric philosophy, so when the pandemic struck in March of 2020 my family and I took what we do as a family and a company, and turned it into a way to help our community- the Splash Fabric Mask Mission!

Here I am with my husband, David, and grown boys Axel, Simon & Miles. We were in front of our house where starting in March 2020 we worked on our Mask Mission together, bringing over 150,000 masks to your faces.

We also donated over 63,000 masks!

The need was great, the stories were heart-wrenching and inspiring.

Here’s how it started: as a maker, when the pandemic hit Seattle hard, I started making masks out of Napkin fabric I had on hand. Sewing could finally actually save lives!

We pivoted from concentrating on our line of eco-friendly fabric and homegoods to shipping and donating thousands of masks everyday.

Not only that, but because we were uniquely situated to connect sewers, customers, and those in need of donations, Splash Fabric’s Mask Mission was able to expand its reach far beyond our small local business.
